Hamish has been amazing with our children from the start. He learned not to jump or bite within the first week he arrived. He accompanies them on their many farm adventures, and even tries to keep them close together if one strays too far from the other. When I look outside he is always close to the children, supervising whatever play they are engaged in.
He loves visitors after he gets the "OK" that they are invited. Everyone who meets him, adores him.
Hamish even loves to play fetch.
Hamish is such a valuable asset to our small farm! He accompanies me anytime I am outside, and loves to perch where he can monitor the property. He rounds up chickens, alerts me when goats escape their pen, moves cattle, protects the property line from "intruders" and protects poultry from hawks.
He has excellent recall from anywhere in ear shot.
His response to my voice and requests feels like a conversation with a friend. He will do just about anything for a "good boy" and a back scratch.
He has an excellent off switch and will gladly spend his days lounging from his favorite vantage point of the property.
During summer months, he sleeps on our deck and alerts to any predators who are curious about our chicken coop.
Our neighbors have cows also, and his favorite activity is to let them know they are too close to the fence line. (pictured)
