Showtime is a very loving dog with a medium energy level. He takes great interest in herding our chickens out to the chicken tractor or putting them back in the coop for the night. So far we are just working on leash to be able to guide him and ensure the safety of the hens.
He has an enjoyable sense of humor and often amazes us with some of his antics. Sometimes he will get loose while on leash at our place and heads for the nearest sizeable water puddle and runs through it with glee and his momma Marla close on his heels. He loves to have other dogs chase him and doesn't mind it when they tackle him.
Showtime is very trainable, gets along well with other dogs, although he will alert and bark at other dogs on the trail. Tim takes him for a 2 to 4 mile walk almost every day and he is a great exercise buddy along with his sister Rosie.
He has been Tim's favorite every since he was a newborn, so he has had lots of extra handling and I call him the "teacher's pet". We look forward to many more shared experiences with this truly amazing dog.
When meeting strangers, Showtime will at first bark a lot and is unsure about approaching them, but once he smells and greets them, he is one who joyously wants to be all over them. He is the same with children, but if they don't run away, he will want to thoroughly get to know them. There has never been an indication of fear biting or aggression. When meeting dogs, once he smells them he wants to play and be best friends.
Showtime is used to herd our hens out to the chicken tractor in the morning and back to the coop before nightfall. In time we will be able to let him off leash to do the herding when we feel that he is ready. He is very happy while herding and absolutely loves to do it and is disappointed when he doesn't get to help.
