Zelda is a wonderful dog on our hobby farm. She is confident and independent, often spending large portions of her day outside without supervision. When she comes in she is affectionate and playful. She enjoys the company of other dogs and has an older black labrador companion at home that she submits to and plays with. She's fabulous around our young child. She trained easily to leave the chickens alone and exhibits excellent guardian tendencies, often following them around during free-ranging time and laying down nearby to watch for predators. She is a powerful chewer (no dog toy stands a chance) and excels at finding her own sticks on the property to collect and use as toys, but is a good judge of what not to chew on and is not destructive. She gets excited when new people come to the property, with typical barking and running to greet them, but quickly settles down and is friendly without being overbearing. Like most collies, she doesn't look for a lot of petting from strangers initially, but shows no aggression. She seems to seek out children when we are in public and is faster to warm up to them than adults.
