Pippa is a beloved, joyful family member. She is lively and playful, but has the "off switch" and is calm indoors. She knows about a dozen of her toys by name, and will fetch a named toy on cue. She knows which backyard critters are OK to chase (squirrels, moles) and which are not (neighbor kitty). She has alerted me to baby robins that fell out of their nest, without trying to harm them. Pippa is familiar with the normal comings and goings of the neighborhood and will bark when needed to alert us to newcomers or concerning/unusual activities (we believe her alerting averted a potential burglary at our neighbors' home last year). Agile and athletic, Pippa is my hiking/trail running buddy--her biddability and desire to please made it easy to teach her to refrain from chasing wildlife, cyclists, or joggers. When off leash, she always comes racing to me when called. Pippa is eager to learn new things, a great all-round companion. //At age 3, Pippa has mellowed and matured noticeably- great combination of alertness, playfulness, and calmness. She understands more human speech than any dog I've had before.

Pippa enjoys trick training and has earned her TKN (Trick Dog Novice) title; we're currently working toward the Intermediate. // Pippa and I have done some treibball ("urban herding") training; she shows a strong desire to "push" and intuitively follows my directional gestures/hand cues. She is gradually learning the self-control needed to work at distance.
