He's obedient, good with kids, has a great low-maintenance coat, lots of active movement, fast, agile, smart, good herding instinct, social with people and other dogs and infinitely patient with angry drake ducks. He CAN get over the fence, he just doesn't. He's also a manager; when it's chicken-o-clock, he will pester us until we go out and put everyone up in the coop. BUT, he's not quite up to the level needed in terms of brains, and we haven't seen signs of a strong nurturing instinct. Most important of all, he does NOT watch us to see what we are doing and then attempt to help us, not until we got baby chicks that he could herd and then it was more by accident, because herding them is fun. Very good dog but we won't be breeding UNLESS it's to a female that IS very smart, very attentive, and has strong nurturing instincts, and even then it's unlikely. Should he start paying attention more, show off some brains, or show more nurturing, this might change.

Gentle slow herder for the baby chicks, no interest in the adult birds and ducks. Good vermin dog, prefers to sit out in the yard and keep an eye on everything. He's really really cut into losses to predators. Instead of a bird every few weeks, we lost 2 in 3 years.
