As a puppy, Baxter loved to pull a round disc with tools and supplies for gardening jobs, and accompany me one day a week to my greenhouse job in a retirement facility. The residents love tossing balls for him down the long hallways or just stopping to pet him. I am hoping he will achieve certifications in both Good Canine Citizen as well as agility. He is very athletic, running with me daily off leash in a state park nearby. The park rangers adore him and when we stop to visit their utility garage/office area, they throw him a tennis ball. Baxter spends much of every day outside with us as we garden, run, hike, or play. He used to pull tarps of debris or leaves to the woods, but I found he got too bored in between waiting for me to fill it. Now that he has discovered how much fun he has flying in the air to catch his latest favorite toy, his KONG frisbee, he’d rather just do that, waiting with his frisbee next to the tarp.
In the summer of 2020, three humans and Baxter did a pandemic adventure: a 36 hour car ride to Idaho and a 10 day backpacking trip in the Sawtooth Mountains. Baxter carried his own food and supplies, then we off loaded our trash to him. He was a great car dog and trail dog. Baxter is loyal, loving, happy, intelligent, enthusiastic and an amazing companion. His playful nature is finally winning over our independent resident house cat.
