Sweetpea tracked another deer for me... her favorite job! This deer was a challenge, as it walked down a creek for a while, and came up on the other side. Not too much of a challenge for this girl, though!

Health

Sweetpea is a very healthy dog, having had no health issues whatsoever

I could go on and on about how awesome Sweetpea is. Just go to our personal profile, and you can read all about how much we love her and why. Sweetpea is not a "trained" dog by any means. We just talk to her, and she listens to us, which in my opinion is preferable. I'm confident that I could get her to do whatever I want her to do with very little training, as she already works the farm with excellence to our family's standard, partially by command, but mostly by instinct. I couldn't be happier with our first experience with having an Old Time Scotch Collie! Can't wait until she gets to be a mama!

Working

yes
We have about 40 chickens and a small goat herd, all of which are free range on the farm. Anytime they go places they are not supposed to go, Sweetpea gets them away by simply moving toward them with her head slightly down until they are in a place where they can be. She moves in and they move out! In the evening, usually the goats and chickens put themselves away, but if we have to leave home earlier than when they naturally go back into their homes, all we have to say to Sweetpea is, "Sweetpea, get the goats!" or "Sweetpea, get the chickens!" and she immediately jumps up and herds them into their homes, no matter how far away or how scattered they are. In the morning, when my wife (Space) is milking the goats, and the goat is eating it's bowl of grain, as the chickens are constantly trying to get the goat's grain, Sweetpea is constantly moving them away from the grain by simply moving towards them with her nose down. She started doing this on her own the first day my wife milked the goat after we got it! It's Sweetpea's favorite daily chore! Sweetpea is also an incredible deer tracker! When she was about 3 months old I hunted a deer, and she tracked it in the snow for about 300 yards, from the point of impact to where it fell dead. Once she smelled the blood, she immediately followed the trail without going astray the whole time! She was 3 months old then, and has performed with equal tracking perfection for the next many deer that I've gotten since then! This is my favorite work that she does, and her reward? The carcass!!! That's a reward that lasts her for about 3 weeks!
