Theo is one of the bright lights of the farm collie world. A descendant of Caledonia Danny Boy, he's a very happy, biddable, affectionate (and extremely handsome) registered English Shepherd with wonderful energy but an even keel and excellent off switch. He has a luxurious, low-maintenance teflon coat and was reportedly so easy to handle that he was the first puppy of his litter to taken out in public. Confident but gentlemanly, he approaches dogs and humans alike as potential friends. He strikes the perfect balance of deference and dominance with his younger "brother" and, despite his sweet nature, doesn't hesitate to rise to the occasion and do his job when it's called for, whether that is protecting his home turf from strangers, helping manage goats or dispatching rodents. He's extremely agile and athletic, and a magnificent disc dog. He is also a sky watcher, tracking anything that flies, including birds, dragonflies and even contrails--helpful when hawks are threatening poultry! He loves to be in contact with his people, both literally and figuratively, but is not constantly underfoot or needy. As long time farm collie owners, we find him to be an exceptional all-around dog.

Theo is primarily a companion dog. Even without any formal training, however, he has always been a big help with our goats and chickens. Even as a puppy he displayed excellent herding instincts, with a non-aggressive soft eye style. He also retrieves our other dog(s) when asked, something he learned easily as a pup with two elderly "uncles" who were hard of hearing and had a tendency to wander.
