Distinguishing Features: Full white rough that extends down his left leg. Beautiful collie tip down on his ears, four white paws, some white on his chin. Slightly shaded sable around face. Black spot on tail, white-tipped tail.

Notes:
Kip comes from a litter of puppies that was advertised in a small local paper. The owners had tried to get an old-type collie. They located and bought the granddam and sire from Indiana and Pennsylvania. They bred them for puppies, and then line bred one of the offspring to produce this litter. The owners have religious objections to registering animals, but we have pictures of his parents and they (and him) all hold to a true Scotch Collie type. Even more exciting, right away Kip has exhibited Scotch Collie personality and behaviors!

Working Dog: yes

Working Description: Kip does the best job of any of our Scotch Collies to date at keeping our chickens out of the yard. We train the dogs to do this to help keep our yard barefoot-friendly :) He also has helped move the cows, though for now he's still in the watch-and-learn stage. Kip is very attentive to the work we do, and often tries to help - for example, digging with us when we're digging in the garden. He has also shown us that he feels very protective of the kids if he thinks they are doing something dangerous. He's predator aware, but still learning by watching Annie (mice, opossums, chasing away eagles). He killed a mouse for us just this past week :) He understands that our other hobby farm animals (goats, chickens, cats, pigs, cows), belong to us, and likes them to be in their proper places. If we move them, he takes a while to adjust to the idea that we want them in the new place!
