Axel is friendly and biddable. He greets people he isn't familiar with in a friendly and accepting manner and he is excited to meet everyone he sees. He is social with other dogs: he seems to like all other dogs, to respect their personal space and to follow proper social conventions.

Working Description: Axel exhibits good natural herding instincts although he does not have any type of livestock on his farm to care for. He properly guards his property (58 acres) to keep it free from "varmints" and interlopers, and has successfully eliminated destruction to our house from chewing rodents. He "watches" local deer herds to prevent them from entering his yard proper, as we have defined it for him, while accepting their right to graze in the field, and he stays at home, in his defined territory, without a tendency to wander. He would be on the job 24/7 if we would allow him to remain outside all night.
