Watson works as a herding and alert guardian with our goats. He is very biddable and quick to respond to cues. He has a moderate energy level and a great off switch when the work is finished. He is a great companion dog for the entire family.
He is nurturing and playful with children and other animals and after giving an alert bark when visitors arrive he is quick to request pats. He initiates games and can be very goofy.
I began diabetic alert training with Watson when he was 6 weeks old and he was performing static alerts in a training environment by 10-12 weeks. I would like to expand his skill for other scenting type work and sports.
Recently he was let out into the exercise yard after dark. When I called him in he refused to come back up to the house which is very unlike him. I finally went to see why he would not move from where he was. I arrived to find him standing alert over a wild rabbit that had tried to squeeze through 2"x 4" rectangle in our wire fence. It had managed to squeeze its head and shoulders through but was caught at the hips and Watson was staying with it to let me know I needed to come see what was wrong. He didn't bark at it. When I finally was able to untangle the poor bunny's legs and set it free Watson wagged his tail, did a little happy bounce and ran up to the house.
