Thomas is an all-around outstanding farmer's companion for the small homestead. He is a devoted protector of the hens and monitor of the sheep. He was on the job keeping the perimeter of the farm monitored at just seven months old. He effectively eliminated the weasel population we'd been dealing with previously and since then keeps our barn and farm vermin free. He tracks down foxes to their dens, and even took on a bobcat that attacked our hens. He adeptly cornered the bobcat and alerted us to its presence, so that we could get involved. In terms of herding, he is loose eyed and casual, which is perfect for our small flock of six sheep. He escorts them between pastures and monitors them but only gets involved with herding when needed. When they escape from the pasture and wander, Thomas does an excellent job bringing them home- herding them right back into the barn.
